Diesel Tech student advances to SkillsUSA Nationals
BELLEFONTAINE – Ohio Hi-Point Career Center Diesel Technology student Cody Smith (Marysville High School) won the gold medal in a SkillsUSA Competition Saturday in Columbus, OH, and advanced to the SkillsUSA National Competition in Kansas City, MO, in June.
Smith competed in a series of diesel technology stations during the competition to earn the honor of being named state champion.
Three other Ohio Hi-Point Career Center students also took home medals during Saturday’s event. Kotey Bontjes (Riverside High School) from Architectural and Mechanical Design, John Watkins (Bellefontaine High School) from Architectural and Mechanical Design and Robert Smayda (Indian Lake High School) from Electronics Engineering each took home bronze medals. Bontjes competed in the architectural drafting event, Watkins competed in the technical drafting event and Smayda competed in the electronics technology event.
