Ohio Hi-Point board approves five-year forecast, prepares for state cuts
BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio – As the school year winds down, the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center Board of Education met for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting Wednesday night in the Hi-Point Inn and approved a five-year forecast presented by Treasurer Eric Adelsberger. Preparation for the future was the theme of the forecast as anticipated state cuts played a big role in planning financially for the district. Overall, while the district remains in strong financial condition, the five-year forecast was completed in a proactive manner to keep it that way.
Adelsberger estimated in his projected five-year forecast a 25% cut in the projected general fund revenues beginning in 2012 in order for the district to begin planning.
Satellite Director Deb Wortman reported that due to low enrollment and in cooperation with Marysville High School’s administration, the Biomedical Science Satellite located in Marysville would not be offered during the 2010-2011 school year. However, students currently planning to take the program will have the option of traveling to the Urbana South Campus where Biomedical Science is also offered.
Wortman also advised the board that they are currently keeping a watchful eye on enrollment in the Graham High School Agriculture Satellite program and the remaining Satellite programs offered at Upper Scioto Valley High School. If numbers do not meet expectation, staffing decisions will need to be made.
High School Associate Director Joel Staudter reported on the high school’s preparation for Convocation, which is scheduled for next Thursday, June 3, at 6:30 p.m. at Campbell Hill on the Bellefontaine campus. In the condition of inclement weather the ceremony will be held at Bellefontaine High School’s Gymnasium.
Darlene Chiles, adult education director, highlighted the upcoming Adult and Continuing Education Division’s first-ever all-adult program graduation ceremony, which is scheduled for Thursday, June 17, at 7 p.m. at Bellefontaine High School. The ceremony will honor completers in all adult programs, including nursing, Adult Basic Literacy Education and more.
The board recognized the May Students of the Month from the high school. Brandon Gamble, a senior Electronics Engineering student from Riverside High School, and Catelyn Parker, a senior Cosmetology student from West Liberty-Salem High School, were nominated by Ohio Hi-Point staff for the honor and received recognition during the board meeting.
