Allison Harlan, a 2024 Ohio Hi-Point Career Center Graphic and Media Arts graduate, achieved national recognition by placing 5th in the Job Interview Contest at the National SkillsUSA Leadership Conference.
The competition was held in Atlanta, GA from June 24-28 and brought together over 6,500 students from across the country to compete in various skill-based contests, promoting the development of personal, workplace, and technical skills grounded in academics.
For the Job Interview event, Harlan, along with competitors from around the nation were evaluated on their understanding of employment procedures for positions in the occupational areas in which they are training. The competition is divided into phases, including the following: completion of employment application; introduction scenario with a receptionist; and an in-depth interview(s). This was Harlan’s second opportunity to complete at the national level as she placed 10th in the nation last year in the same event.
Joining Allison at the conference was Weston Helman, a senior from Graham High School, currently enrolled in the Graphic and Media Arts program at Ohio Hi-Point. Weston was elected as a SkillsUSA Ohio state officer and helped organize and run the Ohio Chapter meetings during the competition.
"We are incredibly proud of Allison and Weston for their achievements at the National SkillsUSA Leadership Conference," said Dr. Rick Smith, OHP Superintendent. "Their success at the state and national levels is a testament to their hard work. We look forward to seeing their future accomplishments as they continue to excel in their respective fields."
SkillsUSA is a national organization that empowers its members to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible American citizens.
