Ohio Hi-Point Career Center is excited to announce the launch of the OHP Campus FIRE/EMT program, a two-year high school course designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to become the next generation of firefighters and paramedics. This program is made possible through the generous support of local businesses and organizations who have stepped up to provide crucial resources.

The Bellefontaine Fire Department graciously donated a 1996 ladder truck to the program, valued at approximately $150,000. The ladder truck will allow students to gain hands-on experience with the tools and equipment they’ll use in real-life scenarios.

In addition to the fire truck, the North Lewisburg Fire Department donated an ambulance. The ambulance is set up with all the necessary equipment so students can practice emergency medical procedures and patient transport in a real-world setting.

Dayton Children’s Hospital generously donated pediatric emergency bags to the program. These bags are equipped with the necessary supplies to handle medical situations involving children.

“We are incredibly grateful to our community partners for their generous support,” said OHP Superintendent Dr. Rick Smith. “The donations from the Bellefontaine Fire Department, North Lewisburg Fire Department, and Dayton Children’s Hospital have been critical in building a robust training program that will help make our students be career ready.”

In the two-year Fire/EMT program, students will participate in live burns and simulated emergency situations, enhancing their decision-making and problem-solving skills in high-pressure environments. The course also emphasizes hands-on training in a variety of lifesaving techniques. Students will learn to assess, diagnose, and treat patients with different illnesses and injuries.

The Fire/EMT program is taught by Drew Goings, and sophomores can apply for the program when the OHP Campus application opens on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024.
