Ohio Hi-Point Career Center's Poetry Out Loud competition recently kicked off with students from Mrs. Monica Young's Public Speaking class.
The competition, part of a national arts education program, allows students to deepen their appreciation for poetry while enhancing their public speaking abilities. Each student selected, memorized, and recited two poems, competing based on accuracy and performance.
Alex Murrish, a senior in the Graphic and Media Arts program, won the competition with the poem Broken Promises. Murrish will advance to the next round, where they will compete against students from Mrs. Young’s English CCP classes and any other OHP student interested in participating. The winner of the campus-wide competition will go on to represent Ohio Hi-Point at the state level in October.
The Poetry Out Loud competition provides an excellent opportunity for students to grow both personally and artistically, stepping outside their comfort zones while building confidence in their speaking skills.
