Students in our Medical Detectives classes at Bunsold Middle School are learning about neurons. They sketched what a neuron looks like, and then built models using clay, wax sticks, pipe cleaners, and other creative supplies. Once the models were completed, students took a series of photos showing the movement of neuron parts and created a GIF of their neuron in action.
Yesterday, our Education Academy, Animal Science, and Construction Trades students visited Triad Local Schools for a fun morning of career exploration! Our Education and Animal Science students talked to the kindergarten students about careers dealing with animals and had a little show and tell with some friends from the Animal Science lab. Then, our Education Academy and Construction Trades students worked with the 4th graders to build their own candy machines! (Sorry about the sugar rush, parents.)
Our students enjoy these opportunities to share what they're passionate about with younger students and we're extremely proud watching them in action!
Our Agronomic Systems students in our OHP/Triad Ag program had an interactive lab this week as they took soil samples and measured the pH of each sample using a Vernier probe. Now, the students will plot the pH levels and make recommendations for fertilizer and other inputs to improve soil quality.

The students also compared the class blood type percentage to the United States percentage.

Students in our advanced manufacturing program at Urbana High School were working on one of our favorite projects - the paper roller coaster challenge! A great connection to National Manufacturing Day last week, students worked in teams to design and construct a paper coaster with at least 6 turns and 1 loop. Each coaster was judged on hang time for a marble as it went through the coaster.

Our Diesel students recently celebrated the arrival of two new semi-trucks thanks to generosity of Meijer. These 2017 trucks help keep our diesel program relevant as they have an aftertreatment system, a crucial aspect of the modern diesel industry that focuses on reducing exhaust emissions. Thank you, Meijer, for helping make our students career ready!

You don't want to miss out on the baba ganoush, falafel fritters, tabouli, hummus trio, or the orange creamsicle baklava!
Diesel students were learning about a diesel engine crankshaft, which converts the force generated by the combustion in the engine (the pistons going up and down) into rotational motion (torque that drives your truck).
